Set within a beautifully landscaped, park-like setting with sweeping views of the Baltimore skyline, Roland Park Place offers a unique blend of city access and suburban tranquility. The community is known not only for its elegant surroundings, but for its vibrant cultural life and deep appreciation for the arts — making it a meaningful setting for live chamber music.

As a distinguished alternative to traditional senior living, Roland Park Place supports residents who remain actively engaged in life, creativity, and community. Its atmosphere of refinement, warmth, and intellectual vitality provides an ideal environment for performances by the Embassy Series String Quartet, where music becomes a shared artistic experience rather than simply an event.

With a strong emphasis on lifelong enrichment and well-being, Roland Park Place fosters a community where artistry, connection, and quality of life continue to flourish at every stage.

About the Venue:

The planning for construction of Residences at Vantage Point, Howard County’s only Life Plan retirement community for adults age 60 and older offering the security of life care, began many years before we opened our doors in 1990 (when we were still known as Vantage House).

The project blossomed into a natural extension of Columbia’s essential premise—that one’s life is enriched by the community in which he or she lives. Not only is Residences at Vantage Point located in the physical heart of Columbia, it represents part of the city’s virtual heart as well. Inclusiveness is a hallmark of who we are: non denominational, welcoming people of all beliefs and backgrounds to an openhearted environment designed to maximize the best life has to offer.

About the Venue:

In 1994, Daniel Malkin, a gifted 30 year-old cellist and teacher, was inspired to introduce chamber music to a broader audience by organizing concerts on Sunday afternoons in Columbia. With the help of his wife, Wonju Kim, a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra violinist, he planned the concerts, engaged the artists—all of them from among his and his wife’s colleagues—arranged for the venue, and acted as the master of ceremonies. He named the organization “Music in Common.”

Sadly, Mr. Malkin died of cancer in April, 1997 at the age of 33. Six months after he died, a group of classical music lovers and musicians gathered to discuss forming a new chamber music organization to continue what he had begun.
